Summary:

In this episode I talk to Irene Lyon about her story and how she came to work in the field she's in.  We discuss trauma, anxiety and how we can begin to heal, through working with our nervous system.

Irene graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport science in 2000 and obtained her master's in research in the fields of biomedical and health science in 2002.

Shortly after this, a series of debilitating knee injuries and surgeries turned Irene to investigate alternative healing and wellness practices and she hasn’t looked back since.

She is a certified and highly skilled practitioner of the Feldenkrais method (based on the work of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais) and Somatic Experiencing (a nervous-system based approach to healing trauma founded by Dr. Peter Levine).   Irene’s brand is her ethos and represents her desire to help the planet, one nervous system at time, by educating, teaching and helping people discover how they can become their own medicine. She is an optimist and a realist, an introvert and an extrovert, a creative science geek and a lover of the natural world.

Summary:

In this episode I talk to Bryce Evans about healing and recovering from Anxiety & Depression with Photography.

Bryce is founder of The One Project - the first photography community for depression and anxiety. His art has been exhibited internationally and his experience in building communities and using marketing for good has amassed communities of over 52,000 people on Instagram and a growing community of over 5,000 for The One Project.

The One Project:

It started with Bryce’s story, creating his own set of techniques to express, understand and eventually overcome severe depression and anxiety. As the project evolved, it became clear that more people could benefit from these photography and storytelling techniques and that alternative outlets were needed to help develop the conversation and our understanding of mental health. With no central location or hub connecting all of these stories, The One Project’s online platform was established to help teach therapeutic photography, educate people on the techniques through online courses and connect you with others who understand what you're going through.
